How to Move to Switzerland from India

January 24, 2024
To move to Switzerland from India, you need to apply for an entry visa at the Swiss embassy in New Delhi. First, clarify your reason for moving as it affects the type of temporary residency visa you’ll receive.

Here’s a quick guide on how to relocate:

  1. Determine your relocation reason.
  2. Apply for the entry visa.
  3. Request a temporary B Swiss permit.
  4. Later, apply for a permanent C Swiss permit.

Note that Indian citizens coming from one of the 27 Schengen countries, including Switzerland, may not need an entry visa.

For first-time immigrants, our Immigration Experts can provide a detailed process overview. It’s important to choose the right immigration route due to Switzerland’s strict policies. For example, work visas are limited annually, so timing is key. Other unrestricted options include family reunification and retirement.

If you’re qualified, our law firm can help you move based on employment.

Applying for a Residence Permit:
Once in Switzerland, you have 14 days to apply for a B residence permit with the cantonal authority. Choose the right canton carefully as taxes vary. The B permit lasts one year but can be extended with our experts’ help.

Becoming a Permanent Resident:
After renewing your B permit for 10 years, you can apply for a C permit or permanent residency. Our experts can guide you through this process.

Cost of Living in Switzerland:
Switzerland is known for its high cost of living. Here’s what to expect:

  • Monthly expenses for a family of four: around EUR 5,900 or CHF 5,700 (excluding rent).
  • For an individual: about EUR 1,600 or CHF 1,550 per month.
  • Average monthly utility bills: EUR 240 or CHF 230.
